Important Jefferson Davis Plaster Bust by Frederick Volck, Model for the Confederate Postage Stamp Design, circa 1862-63.
Jefferson Davis: Frederick Volck Plaster Bust. 9 1/2" tall
plaster bust of "Jefferson Davis" in original light beige finish.
Signed on one side "F. Volck." Frederick Volck of Richmond was the
younger brother of Adelbert Volck of Baltimore, engraver of a
series of anti-Lincoln caricatures, suppressed during the war. This
bust was made circa 1862-1863 and served as the basis for the
Confederate postage stamp that bears Davis's likeness.Condition: Some chipping to the back side and color variations (possible touch-up) in the chest area.
