Description
James K. Polk: White House China Dinner Soup Bowl. This 9 1/2" dinner soup plate was used in the Polk White House. It is pictured as item #20 in Klapthor's "Official White House China". It was purchased in 1846 by President Polk from Alexander Stewart and Company of New York City.Condition: This example displays beautifully with only the most minor wear to the gilded border design encircling the interior of the bowl just below the red, white, and blue shield design. There is a small rectangular adhesive residue on the bottom which is presumably an old tape mark, likely easily removed. A tiny chip on the interior side of the foot is barely noticeable. Overall splendid condition!
