    Description

Henry Clay: Classic, Colorful Cigar Case from the 1844 Election. One of the few such items from this era which was definitely produced for campaign purposes, it identifies Clay as the "Candidad [sic] for 1844." Below his portrait is a great little ditty:

"Come every Whig, your influence bring
    On this eventful day,
And make the Western valleys ring
    With shouts for Henry Clay."

Typical fine surface crazing detracts minimally, otherwise excellent condition.

We had a wonderful time in New York during the October 2013 Historical Manuscripts auction that featured my mother’s papers collected during her tenure as Martin Luther King, Jr.’s secretary. In fact, the entire experience from beginning to end has been a pleasure.
