Description

George Washington: Personally-Owned Glass Decanters. This lot includes a pair of lead glass decanters that are 5" tall and approximately 4.5" wide. They have ribbed and faceted sides and tapering, terraced necks which flair out at the top. An accompanying note dated January 22, 1905 from George C. W. Macgruder states: "These two water bottles which formerly belonged to George Washington, were among a number of articles, some of which were inherited, others collected by me from relations of the Washington family. I am a direct descendent of George Washington's two brothers, Augustus, and John Augustine." A receipt from a 1964 antique show records their sale to Ralph W. Yarborough. They are similar to a Washington jelly glass we sold in our last sale. They are in excellent condition with no defects of any significance.
