Description
George Washington: Large Liverpool Punch Bowl. 11.25" cream ware bowl with numerous transfers, the most notable of which is situated on the side, depicting Washington on horseback, captioned "His Excellency George Washington, Marshal of France & Commander in Chief of all the North American Forces." Other transfers include "Come Box the Compass", "Poor Jack" and "By Virtue and Valour We Have Freed Our Country". The interior of the bowl has a multi-colored depiction of a three-masted sailing ship flying a 13-star American flag, captioned "Success to the Commerce S. S. Curtis". Approximately 3/4" restored spot in central rigging of the ship plus restoration to the "Poor Jack" and "By Virtue" transfers. The all-important Washington transfer appears untouched.
