Description
George Washington: General Washington at Dorchester Heights. 28 1/2" x 36 1/4" oil on canvas, appears to be unsigned. A large and impressive painting after a similar work by Gilbert Stuart (American, 1755-1828). The painting has a letter affixed to the reverse frame from Haley & Steele, Printsellers and Master Framers Since 1899 from Boston MA. The letter identifies the painting as an "Important Historical Portrait" Haley & Steele further state, "It is of a superior quality probably executed between 1820-1830, the paint handling suggests an artist of some distinction."Condition: Painting is in good condition. Professionally housed in a handsome wood frame to an overall size of 35" x 42". Property from the Cary M. Maguire Estate, Dallas, Texas.
