Description

Flags: 39-Star Flag. This 39-star flag (1889 North Dakota) is made of wool bunting and measures 44" x 67". The stars are arranged in the Great Star pattern. 39-star flags are quite rare as the Dakota Territory was divided into North and South Dakota and the two states (the 39th and 40th) admitted on the same day. Accordingly, the 39-star flag was obsolete immediately. This example has moderate soiling, especially on the right side, some stains, some loss to a couple of the stars, several tears and small holes. It would benefit greatly from a cleaning and restoration. From the estate of Houston collector Brent Burg.
