Description

Benjamin Harrison: Mechanical Advertising Egg. One of the cleverest campaign items from the election of 1888 is the wooden egg with pop-up rooster. The eggs measure 3" across and has advertising printed on the side (in this case, "Mabley & Carew, Shoes, Clothing, Hats, Cincinnati.") A brass cut-out rooster (hidden within the egg) pops up when a catch is pushed aside. The rooster is inscribed "I Crow For Harrison and [Mabley & Carew]". These are notoriously difficult to find in good condition. This one has the original catch and works perfectly.
