Description

Abraham Lincoln: White House China Dinner Plate. 9" dinner plate in the Solferino pattern, as used in the Lincoln White House. These were ordered by Mrs. Lincoln from E. V. Haughwout & Company of New York during her May 1861 buying trip. The service was reordered by Presidents Johnson, Grant, and Arthur. The Grant and Arthur sets were decorated in France by Haviland & Company and are so marked. The pieces used during the Lincoln administration and the Johnson reorder were not marked, matching this one. The dinner plate is shown as illustration #28 in Klapthor's standard reference book "Official White House China."

Condition: A tiny inconsequential nick at the rim of the base on the reverse, else in excellent condition.
