Description

William McKinley: 1896 R.N.C. Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms Badge and Baton. 23" x 4" pasteboard box with label of Mermod & Jaccard Jewelry Co. of St. Louis with an attached label indicating it contains the baton of W. P. Huxford, Assistant Sergeant-at-Arms. The box contains a 2.75" x 9.5" ribbon badge for the "Third Asst. Sergeant At Arms St. Louis, 1896." More importantly, it contains a 20.5" long wooden baton with a brass eagle finial. An attached silver plaque is inscribed: "W. F. Huxford 3rd Asst Sgt. at Arms Nat. Rep. Conv. St. Louis June 16 '96." Red, white, and blue satin streamers and a rosette are attached at the top.

Condition: Box has some loss, split corners, edge wear, and dampstains. The ribbon and baton are excellent. Most unusual and eye-catching.
