Description

Thomas Jefferson: 1912 Bronze Statue. 15.25" bronze statue of "Jefferson" holding the Declaration of Independence in one hand. It has what appears to be the original gold-tone finish. It is inscribed on one side of the base: "P. J. David D'Angers Sculp. 1833". Another side says: "Presented by Uriah Phillips Levy of the United States Navy to his fellow citizens 1833." A third side says: " Cast by E. Schulte Sculptor 1912." It weights around 30 pounds, so has a good deal of heft. Pierre-Jean David was a French scultptor and medallist, not related to the famous French painter of historical scenes.
