Description

Theodore Roosevelt: Roosevelt Bears Pitcher. Made by Buffalo Pottery, this ceramic pitcher is 8" tall and titled "Roosevelt Bears". The graphic pitcher depicts multiple scenes of the precocious bears in their travels depicted in stories by Seymour Eaton. Each scene is accompanied by two-line couplets. The transfer images are printed in brown with green, red, and yellow hand-painted highlights. The furry critters were inspired by the story of President Roosevelt's refusal to shoot a bear cub while on a hunting trip. The Roosevelt Bears, and "teddy bear" in particular, became all the rage, appearing on postcards, toys, and bric-a-brac. This pitcher is perhaps the most-sought after of all the incarnations. It has three tight hairlines at the top and even discoloration which can easily be removed by a restorer.
