MARVELOUS TEDDY ROOSEVELT CERAMIC TOBY MUG. This charming mug has long been considered one of the very best TR 3-D items! Wonderful 3-D image in safari dress. As if he weren’t instantly recognizable, the belt buckle is marked "T.R." Perhaps the neatest feature of this mug is the handle, made in the form of an elephant’s head and trunk. Marked on bottom as being the design of noted illustrator Edward Penfield, with the imprint of "The Toby Potteries New York." Pristine condition, height 7 ¾." We know of at least several examples which changed hands in the mid- 1990’s at around the $2500-level. However, perhaps a few too many have been seen in the market of late, because the price seems to have settled to somewhat under $2000. However, this is a genuinely scarce item which many people (including toby mug collectors ) covet and seems to us to present a "buying opportunity" at the time!
