Description

[Revolutionary War] Important and Incredibly Rare Liberty Tree Patriotic Button. 25mm one-piece copper "rebus" button depicting a tree in the center, encircled by a ring of leaves, inscribed "Liberty [tree]." Original shank back. Lovely chocolate patina with only minor surface scratches. Unlisted in all the major reference works we have consulted. Closely held for many years by a sophisticated collector of militaria. The Liberty Tree was located in Boston, but was chopped down in 1775 by Loyalists. It survived as a rallying call and symbol for American resistance to British rule. We have never seen any other examples, making this a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to acquire a true piece of American history!
