Description

Rare Brigadier General George Armstrong Custer Large Oval Albumen Image, Used in Katz's Custer in Photographs Book. Oval albumen image, approximately 5 ¼" x 7 ½", mounted to an overall size of 7 ¾" x 10". This is the very same image which appears on page 23 of D. Mark Katz's book Custer in Photographs, New York: Bonanza Books, [1985], listed as K-25. The image features a young Custer, seated in the uniform he would be married in. An extremely sharp image which clearly shows the details of his uniform, Model 1860 cavalry saber, and dirty leather gauntlets. The photo was taken on or about January 25, 1864 by William Frank Browne and is from an original, direct contact albumen print. Excellent condition.
