Description
Civil Rights: Elizabeth Eckford "Little Rock Nine" Handwritten Signed Statement. 19 7/8" x 13 1/4" inscribed black-and-white photograph depicting Elizabeth Eckford on her way to Little Rock Central High School, during the integration crisis of 1957. Writing in silver ink, Eckford relates the harrowing events of September 4, 1957, including her efforts to reach the school entrance, running the gauntlet of Arkansas National Guard and local citizens hostile to her. A reporter's attempt to give her advice, encouragement and comfort only served to whip up the mob. Includes a color laser photocopy of Eckford inscribing the photograph presented here.Condition: Excellent, with a few minor scratches at lower margin and a very small chip at the top left edge.
