Phelps Vocational High School Photographs (45), Washington, D.C., Circa 1945-1955. Forty-five black-and-white photographs measuring 8" x 10" depicting student life at the school. The Phelps Vocational High School was founded in 1912 and named after Seth Ledyard Phelps, an American Civil War naval officer. The school specialized in teaching young African-American males in the trades of printing, bricklaying, carpentry, etc. The school began to accept girls in 1943 when it became Phelps Career High School. The archive captures school life, pageants, sports and the school's R.O.T.C. program. Some examples with date stamps and hand-written annotations on verso.

Condition: Very good to excellent with some toning, creasing, and warping due to improper storage. Small areas of soiling as well as small rips.
