Description

William Wallace "Willie" Lincoln Carte de Visite, circa 1862. Measuring 2.5" x 4", the third son of Abraham Lincoln is seen in this Mathew Brady image, taken shortly before his death on February 20, 1862. Willie is shown in this full-length portrait, standing with legs crossed, facing slightly to his left, a cane in his right hand and hat in his left. Below the image is written in an unknown hand, in pencil, "Willie Lincoln." Edges show staining, but does not affect the image. Lightly scratched in places.

Willie Lincoln (1850-1862) was only 12 years old when he contracted what is thought to be typhoid fever.
