Description

Union Major General Andrew Jackson Smith Carte de Visite and Clipped Signature. Includes: (1) CDV image of General Smith in uniform, seated. No photographer's imprint present. Minor toning and wear along the edges, else very good condition. (2) War-date clipped signature "A. J. Smith", as Brigadier General, Vicksburg, May 30, 1864. The paper is slightly toned, else the signature is legible and in very good condition. A. J. Smith (1815-1897), an 1838 graduate of West Point and veteran of the Mexican-American War is most noted for his victory over Confederate General Stephen D. Lee at the Battle of Tupelo, Mississippi, on July 14, 1964.
