Description

Union General Edmund Kirby Carte de Visite. Fine studio portrait of Edmund Kirby (1840-1863). He fought at 1st Bull Run, Yorktown, Seven Pines and Fredericksburg. He was mortally wounded at Chancellorsville while commanding the 5th Maine Battery. He was visited at the hospital by President Lincoln who had him commissioned a brigadier general of volunteers, thereby increasing the pension for his widowed mother. R. W.
