Description
Ulysses S. Grant Wartime Carte de Visite Signed "U.S. Grant Lt. Gen. U.S.A." 2.5" x 4", with an E. & H.T. Anthony, New York imprint on verso. Grant is seen leaning on a small table, wearing a long frock coat. The photograph was published by Anthony from a Brady's photographic negative. Although Grant here appears as a major general early in the war, this signature must date to circa March 1864 or later, given the rank he uses in his signature. From the Bret J. Formichi American Civil War Rarities Collection.Condition: The CDV has crisp corners and retains nice tonal contrasts. A very dark and bold signature. Light toning at the edges, with faint silvering at the bottom edge, else very fine condition.
