Description

Three Civil War-Era Cartes de Visite. The first, 2.5" x 4", features an older black man, wearing light clothing with a dog at his feet, identified in a pencil notation on the verso as "'Old Sylvester' for over 30 years a faithful servant in the family of Wm. B. Ludlow." F. Forshew backstamp. The second, 2.5" x 4", shows a young black man polishing the shoes of an older white man, identified in pencil below the image as "Capt. W. N. Hane[?]." Holmes' Gallery backstamp. The final, 2.5" x 4", features a black man in tattered clothing, sitting with his back to the camera above a bucket. Cushing backstamp.
