Description
Robert E. Lee: Plecker Carte-de-Visite [CDV]. Very rare, from-life image of Lee posed inside Adam Plecker's "Traveling Gallery" taken during the summer of 1866 at Rockbridge Baths, Virginia. This is the only known photograph of Lee which shows the unaltered background inside Plecker's studio. Gold rule borders, trimmed at top and bottom (not affecting albumen). Slight pink tint applied to Lee's cheeks. A. H. Plecker back mark.From the collection of Dr. Donald Hopkins.
