Description

Napoleon Buford Signed Carte de Visite. 2.5" x 4", a standing portrait in uniform, with a T.W. Bankes, Helena, Arkansas backstamp on verso. Signed on verso: "N.B. Buford."

Napoleon Bonaparte Buford (1807-1883) raised the 27th Illinois Regiment and fought at Belmont, Island No. 10, Corinth and Vicksburg. Buford was also the half-brother of one of the heroes of Gettysburg, John Buford.

Condition: Toning throughout with foxing. Some paper loss at the photograph's top left corner. Bumped corners. Spotting on front and on verso. A few pencil notations on verso.
