Description

John Wilkes Booth: Rare Carte de Visite [CDV]. Certainly one of the scarcest and most desirable of all known Booth images. In the reference source John Wilkes Booth Himself by Richard and Kellie Gutman it is listed as Booth image #24. The sitting took place at the studio of John Carbutt, in Chicago, between January 1862 and May 1863. This example has a back imprint of J.J. Reilly, NY. The full length pose pictures Booth wearing his trademark overcoat while holding a hat in his left hand. The CDV mount has some softness at the bottom edge, else in fine condition. From The Collection of Dr. Blaine Houmes
