Confederate Commodore George N. Hollins Carte de Visite, E. & H. T. Anthony, New York backmark with penciled identification. This CDV is taken from a prewar portrait of the subject. Overall browning, very good condition. George Nichols Hollins (1799 - 1878) was a War of 1812 veteran and a career U. S. Navy officer before entering Confederate service. His hastily assembled "Mosquito Fleet" of gunboats harassed Union blockaders on the Mississippi early in the war.Auction Info
