Description

Confederate Colonel Francis S. Bartow (KIA) Carte de Visite, circa 1861. 2.5" x 4". Bartow, a Georgia politician, served the Georgia Militia as colonel at the outbreak of the Civil War. He was killed at the First Battle of Bull Run in July 1861, making him the first Confederate brigade commander killed in combat. Below his image in this CDV is written in ink, "Gen. Bartow / Hero of Manassas." Backstamped by Quinby & Co. of Charleston. Some soiling.
