Description
Abraham Lincoln: Group of Six Mourning Cartes de Visite [CDVs]. A group of six Abraham Lincoln mourning CDVs. Mourning cartes de visite were incredibly popular following Lincoln's assassination. A dramatic CDV with an eagle perched on a tree limb with miniature Lincoln CDV in its beak. A miniature Jefferson Davis dressed in woman's clothing is attempting to extricate himself from the eagle's right claw. A ribbon labeled "Booth the Assassin" is clutched in the eagle's left claw. Recto imprint reads, "Entered according to Act of Congress in the year 1895, by H. Tilden...for the District of Massachusetts." 2.5" x 4". (2) "National Lincoln Monument." CDV with front imprint that reads, "Entered, according to act of Congress, in the year 1878, by J. A. W. Pittman...at Washington, D.C." Back mark from J. A. W.
