Description
[Samuel Clemens] Mark Twain: Carte de Visite [CDV] and Trade Card. Lot includes: 1) 2 3/8" x 4" on photographer's mount; Brighton, England; Image of Twain facing right, taken by W. & A. H. Fry with backstamp on verso. 2) 3" x 5" advertising trade card; London, England; circa late 1870's. Features a lithograph portrait of Clemens (misspelt S.H. Clemmens) based off an 1874 photograph by Gurney. Advertising for a "E. A. Percival, Custom English Tailor."Condition: 1) A few scattered marks. Moderate adhesive staining on verso from prior mounting, with pencil notation. 2) Minor toning with minor soiling. Moderate surface loss on verso from prior mounting.
