Description
Robert E. Lee: Albumen Photograph Taken One Week After His Surrender At Appomattox. Confederate General Robert E. Lee is featured in this Mathew Brady image sitting on the back porch of his Richmond, Va home. His son General George Washington Custis Lee standing to his right, his longtime aide-de-camp, Walter Taylor, standing to his left. The photograph was taken on April 16, 1865, exactly one week after he surrendered at Appomattox. More often than not this image is found in Carte de Visite format, but rarely, if ever, does it appear in this large format. The albumen measures 7 1/8" x 8 ½ and overall 9 5/8" x 10 7/8". The albumen is in excellent condition having excellent contrast and detail. A stunning image, especially in this large size.Auction Info
