Rare Albumen View of the Four Dalton Gang Fatalities after the Infamous Coffeyville Kansas Raid, Circa 1892/3. 3 7/8" x 5½". Bob Dalton claimed that he would "beat anything Jesse James ever did, rob two banks at once, in broad daylight." On October 5, 1892 the gang rode into Coffeyville, Kansas to stake that claim. The ensuing gunfight between the gang and the townspeople is the stuff of legends. Four gang members, Bob and Grat Dalton, Tom Evans, and Texas Jack were killed; Emmet Dalton remarkably survived twenty-three gunshot wounds. This is clearly a period copy of one of the most famous of all the western outlaw photographs, doubtless executed by an enterprising photographer looking to cash in on the notoriety of the event.
