Description

Abraham Lincoln: Oval Image Known as the "Speed Pose." Measures 5.5" x 7.5" and looks to be a salt print. Framed to an overall size of 11" x 13". On the bottom of the mount, it bears the imprint of "Phot. by Good & Stokes, Trenton N.J." The image is believed to have been taken sometime between March 1, 1861 and June 30, 1861. The original photographer remains a mystery. This pose is referred to as the "Speed Pose" because Lincoln inscribed and signed a large example of this image and presented it to the mother of Joshua Speed, the most intimate of Lincoln's early friends. The image has some light mottling but overall has nice detail and tone.
