Description

[John Steinbeck]. Photo Album of Steinbeck's Parents and Family. Eight black and white photographs (later printings), 3.5" x 3.5", No place; circa 1848-1899. Housed in a green suede album, 5" x 6". At the front of the album is a mounted card that reads, "Mr. & Mrs. JE Steinbeck." The photographs depict what we infer to be John Ernst Steinbeck (1862-1935) and his wife, Olive (1867-1934), along with various other members of the Steinbeck family. The family members are posed in various groups around the outside of a ranch. The green album cover has been carved to feature a floral design with two hanging bells that bear the dates "1849" and "1899".

The Steinbeck family lived in Salinas, California, just 25 miles from the Pacific Coast. John spent many summers working on neighboring farms and ranches.

Condition: Minor warping to the photographs, with slightly uneven edges. Soiling and wear at the corners of the album. Toning to the edges. Overall very good.
