M1840 Ames Cavalry Saber. Very nice, untouched U.S. M1840 heavy cavalry saber by Ames with Mexican War date. Blade excellent, no nicks, rust or pitting, smooth and dark gray. Deep crisp Ames markings with 1848 date. Hilt about perfect. Brass with nice patina and grip with all the original leather and wire. Very nice representative Mexican War period M1840 saber.
