Description

Fine 19th Century European Model Brass Cannon, Wood Carriage and Caisson A beautifully detailed European cannon with a 17½" brass barrel (including cascabel), a 7/8" bore, and 3 1/4" diameter breech. The trunnions measure approximately 7/8". The carriage is constructed of oak and measures approximately 25" in length, brass fittings, screws, nails and ships-wheel elevating screw. The carriage is mounted with two 11 1/4" wheels with wooden spokes, brass double rims and hubs. No maker's marks present.
Oak caisson measuring 8 1/4" long, two brass-mounted detachable limber chests, one of the chest hinges is missing its mounting pins. 11 1/4" wheels with wooden spokes, brass double rims and brass hubs - missing both hub pins.
The cannon and caisson together measure 39" overall.
A most handsome example, which appears to be complete and is in excellent condition.
