W. Somerset Maugham. Two Letters Signed by Maugham and One Signature. Lot includes one typed letter signed, dated 1958, one autograph letter signed, undated, and a 4 x 2.5 inch piece of paper containing Maugham's signature. All in overall very good condition.More Information:
One typed letter signed "W. Somerset Maugham" on Venice hotel notepaper, dated May 1, 1958, responding to a fan letter; with transmittal envelope. One autograph letter signed "W. S. Maugham" on Ritz-Carlton (New York) notepaper, dated May 15 [no year], which reads in part: "I would have answered your letter before, only I have been very unwell. I am just passing through New York on my way to California & take the opportunity to congratulate you & to wish you every happiness." Also included is "W. Somerset Maugham" signed on a 4 x 2.5 inch piece of paper. The typed letter on Venice hotel notepaper has a small area of paper loss at the bottom edge; also, there is tape residue to edges of the notepaper and the envelope, where it appears they were at one point mounted in a scrapbook. Items in overall very good condition.
