Fine condition with wafer seal intact. John Tyler signs a ship's passport for the "Belle" of New Bedford, Massachusetts - The Whaling City. The document reads in part: By the President of the United States of America Suffer the Bark "Belle", Ichabod Handy master or commander of the burthen of 320 and 22/95 tons or thereabouts mounted with no guns navigated with twenty five men To Pass with her Company Passengers Goods and Merchandise without any hinderance seizure or molestation the said Bark appearing by good testimony to belong to one or more of the Citizens of the United States and to him or them only...J. Tyler
