Sullivan, Sir Arthur. Letter signed, 1 page (7 x 4.5 in.; 178 x 114 mm.), London, 6 December 1882, to Mr. Joachin, on I, QUEEN'S MANSIONS, VICTORIA STREET. S.W. stationery. Accompanied by a postcard photograph of Sullivan by E. Bieber of Berlin and Hamburg. Sir Arthur Sullivan accepts an invitation to dinner. The English composer writes in full: Dear Mr. Joachin, I have much pleasure in accepting your kind invitation to dinner on Tuesday the 19th instant at 7.15. Believe me Sincerely Yours Arthur Sullivan. Sir Arthur Sullivan is best known for his series of 14 operatic collaborations with the dramatist W. S. Gilbert, including such enduring works as H.M.S. Pinafore, The Pirates of Penzance and The Mikado. Sullivan composed 23 operas, 13 major orchestral works, eight choral works and oratorios, two ballets, incidental music to several plays, and numerous hymns and other church pieces, songs, and piano and chamber pieces. The best known of his hymns and songs include "Onward Christian Soldiers" and "The Lost Chord."
