Description

State of Massachusetts-Bay Six Percent Treasury Loan Certificate. One page, 8.75" x 9", [Boston, Massachusetts], December 1, 1777. A treasury loan certificate, No "174," for "Fifty Five Pounds Two Shillings" issued to Edward Fettyplace, Junior, with a due date of March 1, 1781 with annual interest of six percent. These notes, or debt loan certificates, were used by Massachusetts and other states to pay costs incurred during the Revolutionary War.

Condition:
The certificate has horizontal and vertical folds with tears that have been repaired with silk tape on the verso. Ezekiel Price's signature in red ink is faded but still legible. The Henry Gardner signature has a hand cancellation. With minor paper loss on the right hand edge.
