Description

Republic of Texas $50 Dollar Red Back Note. 7.25" x 3.1". Printed in New Orleans by Rawdon, Wright, Hatch & Edson. Dated January 25, 1840. Signed by James H. Starr as Treasurer and Mirabeau Lamar as President. Allegory of Venus rising from the sea is at left, a portrait of Stephen Austin at right, and two ships at sea at top center.
Condition: Cut cancellation resulting in a triangle of paper loss, and a second stamped cancel over Lamar's signature. Toning, and very light wear.
