Description

Pinkerton's National Detective Agency Bulletins with Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Six bulletins (Nos 1, 4, 6, 7, 10, 15) issued by the Pinkerton Detective Agency from 1898-1902. There was no federal police agency in the nineteenth century, and the Pinkerton agency played a prominent role in apprehending lawbreakers, particularly train and bank robbers and jewel thieves. Pinkertons compiled dossiers on criminals, used mug shots for identification purposes, cultivated informers, and circulated notices to alert the public that criminals were at large. Each bulletin has a summary of the reported criminals and their mugshots in the back. Bulletin #15 contains descriptions and mugshots of Robert LeRoy Parker and Harry Alonzo Longabaugh better known as "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid." Bulletin #10 has information on the bank robbery at First National Bank of Winnemucca, Nevada, that Parker was debunked as having committed but was almost definitely carried out by members of "The Wild Bunch." Light toning, creasing, and chipping are scattered throughout, and the #15 bulletin's wrappers have become detached, with some chipping near the spine. These are in overall great condition.
