Description

Two Issues of The Albion from 1835 with Texas Revolution Content. Dated November 21 and November 28, 1835; each issue has 8 pages and measures 12.5" x 17.75". November 21 issue (top of center column on page 375) prints the ruling of the Circuit Court Southern District of New York allowing U.S. Citizens to provide "[d]onations in money, or anything else, to the inhabitants of Texas, to enable them to engage in a civil war with the sovereignty of Mexico" as it does not violate the law that prohibits "providing the means for a military expedition from the United States or their territory" against a foreign power at peace with the U.S.

Page 383 of the November 28 issue prints an account of the capture of the Goliad on October 9 and 10 under the leadership of George Collingsworth and Ben Milam. The nearly full column of text describes the Fort, gives a brief account of the takedown, as well as giving an explanation for its strategic importance. The third column contains an article by one of the editors attempting to reassure potential emigrants to the Rio Grande and Texas Land Company homesteads (an advertiser in the paper) that the colony is well away from the hostilities. He writes: "Truly Texas is the land of promise."

Condition: Both issues are disbound from a larger volume and have scattered foxing and dampstaining across the top margins of all the pages. Front page of the November 28 issue has a tear at top in the left margin affecting a few letters on the verso.
