The Deseret Semi-Weekly News: Approximately 100 Bound Issues Published in 1892. Salt Lake City, Utah; 19 x 23 inches, eight pages each. Established by Mormon settlers in 1865, the Deseret News was the first newspaper published in the Utah Territory. Now known as the Deseret Morning News, it holds the distinction of having the second-largest readership among daily newspapers in Utah. Throughout its history, the publication has operated as an official outlet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has appeared under various titles, including Deseret News, Deseret Evening News, Deseret Morning News, Deseret News Salt Lake Telegram, Deseret Semi-Weekly News, and The Deseret Weekly.Condition: Boards detached with remnants of binding at the spine. Endpapers heavily toned and fragile, with the final few pages beginning to separate. Newspapers are overall in good condition; offset toning at the edges, with scattered staining and foxing throughout; some wear at the edges, resulting in chips and short tears, generally not affecting legibility.
