Description

Honolulu Star Bulletin: Oahu Bombed By Japanese Planes. Two original Honolulu Star-Bulletin (Honolulu, Hawaii Territory) newspapers dated Dec 7, 1941 and August 15, 1945, light wear else fine. The Dec 7, 1941 issue is the 1ST EXTRA and is the first newspaper (as well as the "site" newspaper) announcing the Japanese "sneak" attack on the US Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, the event that forced the US into WW II. This Dec 7, 1941 issue is ORIGINAL and contains all of the points in the Library of Congress circular describing how to discern an original from a reprint (the telling point is the upside down triangular "smudge" of ink between the letters "A" and "R" in the headline "WAR !". The August 15, 1945 "2nd EXTRA" of the Honolulu Star-Bulletin announces the SURRENDER OF JAPAN and thus the END OF WW II. These 2 newspapers make wonderful "book ends" to the beginning and end of US involvement in WW II.
