Description
Group Lot of Galveston Newspapers (3). Three East Texas newspapers, two of which were published during the Civil War. Includes:The Galveston Tri-Weekly News. Houston; November 7, 1863. Vol. XXII, No. 56. Two pages printed in six columns, measuring 14 x 21 inches. Contains reporting on the fighting in Virginia as part of the Bristoe campaign, as well as an editorial pieces on Spiritualism, abolition, and Confederate currency.
The Galveston Tri-Weekly News. Houston; May 20, 1864. Vol. XXII, No. 136. Two pages printed in four columns, measuring 9 x 12 inches. Features several articles on the Battle of the Wilderness, the assault that began General Grant's Virginia Overland Campaign.
The Galveston Daily News. Galveston; July 22, 1874. Vol. XXXIV, No. 169. Four pages printed in nine columns, measuring 20 1/2 x 28 1/4 inches. Includes several articles regarding the South and Reconstruction, published as the 1874 midterm elections drew near. Also features a brief article on Elisha Gray's purported invention of the telephone.
Condition: Each issue lightly toned and creased at folds; a few separations at the folds, touching text but not affecting legibility; some edgewear, including chips and short tears.
