Small folio, 4pp. The front page has "stacked" headlines : "By The President of the United States of America A Proclamation" with the first printing of President George Washington's first National Thanksgiving Day Proclamation. The National Thanksgiving Proclamation was the first formal proclamation of Thanksgiving in the United States. President Washington declared Thursday, November 26, 1789 as a day of public thanksgiving and prayer. This is the first appearance in any newspaper of Washington's First National Thanksgiving Proclamation.Auction Info
