Four Revolutionary War-Era Newspapers from Connecticut. A series of beautiful and bright examples of Revolutionary War-era newspapers from Connecticut ripe with news on the war front, both in the colonies and overseas, including major cities like New York, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Boston and London. They feature numerous articles on the fight for American Independence, touching on standard war-time news, including troop and supply movements, and political happenings, with contemporary advertisements, including a reward offered for the capture of an AWOL soldier and a runaway enslaved man from Massachusetts.

1) The Connecticut Courant, and the Weekly Intelligencer. Hartford; Tuesday, May 25, 1779. Hudson and Goodwin. Number partially obscured, but appears to be 798. Four pages, 9.5" x 14". Unpaginated and printed in three columns. Closely trimmed, affecting text in the upper margin of page [2].

2) The Connecticut Journal. New Haven; Thursday, June 28, 1781. Thomas and Samuel Green. Number 713. Four pages, 8.25" x 14". Unpaginated and printed in three columns. This issue contains substantial extracts from letters by General Nathanael Greene to Congress on the surrender of Orangeburg and Fort Motte to Generals Marion and Sumter, and Lieutenant Colonel Henry "Light Horse Harry" Lee on the siege of Ninety Six.

3) The Connecticut Gazette; and the Universal Intelligencer. New-London; Friday, August 17, 1781. Timothy Green. Volume XVIII [18], number 927. Four pages, 9.75" x 14.5". Unpaginated and printed in three columns.

4) The Connecticut Courant and Weekly Intelligencer. Hartford; Tuesday, August 28, 1781. Hudson and Goodwin. Number 866. Four pages, 9.5" x 13.5". Unpaginated and printed in three columns. This issue also includes extracts of letters describing the siege of Ninety Six in detail and includes references to General Sumpter and Francis "Swamp Fox" Marion.

Condition: 1779 issue with nearly complete separation along integral fold with one area of archival tape repair; two edges reinforced with archival tape. Journal with rough edges and archival tape repair to one page. Dampstaining to Gazette that does not affect legibility. Scattered light soiling, toning and foxing to all.
