This issue features a front-page article on the state of the Texas Revolution, reporting on news from March 4, 1836, just two days before the fall of the Alamo. It reads, in part:"Information has been received at Nacogdoches, that Santa Anna's forces are on their march for the frontiers of Texas. His advance, consisting of about 3500 men, are advancing on San Antonio and the different posts below that place. The Texians, although not so well provided with supplies as is necessary for a protracted campaign, have no doubt but that they can maintain those posts until reinforcements arrive to their assistance...Gonzales' command is entirely dispersed, and twenty-two men taken prisoner. 300 cavalry and 300 infantry have arrived at Matamoras...it is believed that an attack is intended on Goliad and Bejar simultaneously."
Also on the front page, an essay discussing slavery and criticizing abolitionists.
