Wyandott City, Kansas Territory

John H. Millar. Plan of Wyandott City, Kansas Territory. 1857. Engraved by Wm. Schuchman; Pittsburg, Pennsylvania. 47.75" x 35". The map shows the street layout for Wyandotte City, and designates two large public spaces: Oakland Park and Huron Place, which includes four church lots and a seminary. Inset at top left shows the Wyandott Purchas, placing it in context, showing the Delaware Reserve to its west, and Shawnee Lands at its southern borders. A second inset at bottom is titled "Map of Kansas Valley", providing topographical information about its waterways. With Description of Wyandott's many natural resources and benefits for commerce. The Missouri River looms prominently along the right side of the map, with a designated levee providing protection. The map is adorned with a floral motif border.

We could find no previous sale records, and could locate only one other copy housed at the Kansas Historical Society.

Condition: Map has been backed with archival tissue to restore tiny tears and chipping at edges. Two small holes (each about 0.25" in diameter) at center. Some soiling at edges, and a few stray spots. Paper loss at left margin, but well away from decorative border.
