Description

David H. Burr. The United States of Mexico. New York: David H. Burr, [1835]. 11 x 13 1/2 inches (sight), matted and framed to an overall size of 19 x 22 1/2 inches. With a large inset of Guatemala at the bottom left. Hand-colored, relief shown in hachure.

Originally issued as part of Burr's New Universal Atlas, the map was "Entered according to act of Congress in the year 1832," but was not actually published until Burr's atlas was released three years later in 1835. It depicts Mexico (and a small portion of the United States of America) from Upper California to Panama, with a large inset of "Guatemala or the United Provinces of Central America" at the bottom left. Issued just a year before the Texas Revolution, the future republic is shown as a part of Mexico.

Condition: Not examined out of frame. Lightly toned with very minor foxing.
